Annealing involves very slow cooling (usually inside the furnace), which results in a highly ductile, soft material with low internal stress – perfect for parts requiring extensive further machining. Normalizing involves cooling the part in still air, which creates a more uniform, refined grain structure and higher strength than annealing. Our Stress Relieving process involves heating the part to just below its critical temperature and holding it there (soaking).
