Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

Accurate Edge offers 2 types of NDT process, MPI and LPI

MPI – Magnetic Particle Inspection is a method that is used for the detection of surface and near-surface flaws in ferromagnetic materials and is primarily used for crack detection.

LPI – Liquid penetrant inspection is a low-cost inspection method used to locate surface-breaking defects in nonporous materials. Penetrant inspection is used to detect casting, forging and welding surface defects such as hairline cracks, porosity, leaks in new products and fatigue cracks on in-service components.

FAQ about Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

For critical oilfield components, we primarily utilize Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI) to detect surface and near-surface defects like cracks, porosity, and lack of fusion. For internal volumetric defects, Ultrasonic Testing (UT) is the industry standard. At Accurate Edge, our ASNT Level II certified technicians use these methods to ensure that every weld – whether on a pressure vessel or a drill string – complies with international standards like ASME Section IX and API 6A.

Corrosion and erosion are invisible threats to industrial assets. Ultrasonic Thickness Gauging (UTG) allows us to measure the remaining wall thickness of pipes, tanks, and pressure vessels without needing to shut down the system or cut the material. By identifying “thin spots” early, we help UAE plant operators move from reactive repairs to predictive maintenance, preventing catastrophic failures and extending the safe operating life of the equipment.

In safety-critical sectors like Aerospace and Energy, a “clean” visual appearance isn’t enough. NDT is a mandatory requirement for API and ISO certification because it provides documented proof that the material’s internal structure is sound after high-stress processes like welding or induction hardening. At Accurate Edge, we provide a full NDT report with every project, giving our clients the “Safe-to-Operate” assurance required by major operators like ADNOC and international regulators.
